Adams Administration Fast-Tracks 11 Projects, Promising Nearly 10,000 Homes on City-Owned Land
The Adams administration released an update on 11 housing projects underway on city-owned land, set to bring 9,750 new homes to NYC.
The Adams administration is making strides in tackling the city's housing crisis, announcing a progress report on 11 projects currently in the works on city-owned land. These developments, expected to deliver nearly 10,000 new homes, are the result of Executive Order 43 issued in August 2024.
The order, which directed all city agencies to identify underutilized properties suitable for residential development, has resulted in the fast-tracking of these 11 projects. Among the developments are the Pacific Park in Brooklyn, the Bronx Point in the South Bronx, and the La Central project in the Melrose neighborhood of the Bronx.
However, not everyone is on board with the Adams administration's aggressive approach. Some critics have raised concerns about the potential displacement of low-income residents in these neighborhoods, as well as the lack of community input in the decision-making process.
City Council member Brad Lander, a vocal advocate for affordable housing, expressed his reservations about the developments, stating, "While I support efforts to create more affordable housing, we cannot ignore the concerns of the communities that will be impacted by these projects. We need to ensure that these developments truly benefit the residents of these neighborhoods."
