Arrogance and Trust Issues: NAR CEO Nykia Wright's Candid Interview at RISMedia's CEO & Leadership Exchange
NAR CEO Nykia Wright opened up about the organization's recent turmoil at the RISMedia CEO & Leadership Exchange.
In a candid one-on-one discussion with RISMedia Founder and CEO John Featherston at the 2025 CEO & Leadership Exchange in Washington, D.C., National Association of Realtors® (NAR) CEO Nykia Wright addressed the recent controversies surrounding the organization.
Wright did not shy away from admitting that "arrogance" had played a role in the issues faced by NAR. She stated, "We became complacent and arrogant in our position as the leading voice for real estate professionals. We took for granted the trust placed in us by our members and the public."
This admission comes after NAR faced criticism for its handling of the Justice Department's antitrust lawsuit and allegations of discriminatory practices. Wright acknowledged that the organization had lost sight of its mission to serve its members and the public.
However, Wright also reiterated her commitment to regaining trust and rebuilding the organization's reputation. She stated that NAR was implementing changes and reforms to address the issues and regain the trust of its members and the public.
Featherston also pressed Wright on the lack of diversity within NAR's leadership. Wright acknowledged this issue and stated that the organization was actively working on increasing diversity and representation within its leadership.
While Wright's remarks were met with applause from the audience, some critics have questioned the sincerity of NAR's efforts to address its issues. As one unnamed industry insider stated, "Actions speak louder than words. We will have to wait and see if NAR follows through on its promises."
