Bridge Housing Completes Move-Ins at Evermont Affordable Housing Development in South L.A.
Evermont affordable housing opens for residents in South L.A.
Bridge Housing Corporation has successfully completed move-ins at Luminus and Vista, two new affordable housing developments located at the bustling intersection of Vermont and Manchester Avenues in South Los Angeles.
The development, part of the Los Angeles County-led Evermont project, consists of 180 residential units and marks a significant milestone for the community. The County acquired the over four-acre site through eminent domain in 2018 after plans for a shopping center by developer Eli Sasson fell through. The site had remained vacant since the previous structures were destroyed in the 1992 riots.
“Evermont is a symbol of what is possible when we come together and deliver on our promises,” said Bridge Housing President and CEO Ken Lombard. “Bridge and our partners are committed to continuing to serve communities across South LA through innovative solutions that support residents and offer safe, affordable housing for generations to come.”
Luminus, the larger of the two buildings, offers 118 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for families. Vista, on the other hand, provides 62 units of permanent supportive housing for seniors. The development also includes a new transit plaza, parking structure, Metro training facility, and the public boarding school SEED LA. The ground-floor retail space, developed by Primestor, is set to open later this year.
The new housing was designed by TCA Architects and is part of a team that includes the Coalition for Responsible Community Development, Walter Consultants, and Suffolk. This is not Bridge Housing's first venture in South LA, as they are also part of the team currently redeveloping the Jordan Downs public housing complex in Watts. The project, costing $1 billion, will ultimately provide over 1,500 homes.
