Controversial Developer Files Permits for New Residential Building in Astoria
Amidst neighborhood opposition, developer Aryeh Assouline has filed permits for a four-story residential building in Astoria, Queens.
The Astoria neighborhood of Queens is no stranger to development, but the latest project to stir up controversy is a new residential building at 21-69 Shore Boulevard. The developer behind the project is none other than Aryeh Assouline, known for his company Impact Builders Corp.
The four-story building will be located between 21st Drive and Ditmars Boulevard, just a stone's throw away from the Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard subway station, which is served by the N and W trains. According to the permits, the building will have 10 units and will span approximately 10,000 square feet.
This is not Assouline's first project in Astoria, as he has previously developed several other residential buildings in the neighborhood. However, this latest project has raised concerns among local residents and community groups, who fear that the new building will negatively impact the character of the neighborhood.
Despite the opposition, Assouline remains determined to move forward with the project. In an interview with The Real Deal, he stated, "I have been developing in Astoria for years and I am proud of the projects I have completed. This new building will provide much-needed housing for residents in the area."
However, some residents are not convinced and have expressed concerns about the potential increase in traffic and strain on local resources. Some have also questioned the motives behind the project, with rumors swirling about potential backroom deals and connections with local politicians.
Regardless of the controversy, it appears that Assouline has all the necessary approvals and permits in place to begin construction on the new building. Only time will tell how the project will ultimately impact the Astoria community.
