"Controversial Developer Unveils Renderings for Affordable Housing Project in Yonkers Neighborhood"
"New renderings released for a mixed-use building in Yonkers, with affordable housing units and commercial space."
Renderings have been released for 325-337 South Broadway, an eight-story mixed-use building in Yonkers, Westchester County. The project, designed by SLCE Architects and developed by Urban Builders Collaborative, has been met with controversy due to its size and location in the neighborhood.
The 85-foot-tall building will consist of 181 affordable apartments in studio to three-bedroom layouts, a much-needed addition to the area's housing stock. However, the project will also include 7,940 square feet of commercial space, which will house a U.S. Post Office. A five-story, 350-vehicle parking garage is also planned for the site.
The property spans three abutting interior lots between Ludlow Street to the north and Morris Street to the south, raising concerns about the impact on the surrounding community. Local residents have expressed frustration with the lack of community input in the development process, as well as the potential increase in traffic and strain on resources.
Despite these concerns, the developer has moved forward with the project, touting the much-needed affordable housing units as a benefit to the neighborhood. "We are committed to providing quality housing options for all income levels in the Yonkers community," said a representative from Urban Builders Collaborative.
