Developer Westhab and Slate Property Group Partner to Open Fort Greene Family Center in Brooklyn

Work is finished on the $73 million Fort Greene Family Center, an 11-story transitional housing facility yielding 105 units for families in need.

The Fort Greene Family Center, a joint project between nonprofit developer Westhab and real estate firm Slate Property Group, has officially opened its doors in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. The 11-story facility, located at 108 Saint Edwards Street, provides 105 transitional housing units for families with children.

The $73 million project was designed by Aufgang Architects and is a result of a partnership between Westhab and Slate Property Group. The property was built on the site of the abandoned St. Michael-St. Edward Church, which had been vacant for years.

The project has faced some controversy, with some community members expressing concerns about the size and design of the building. However, both Westhab and Slate Property Group have defended their plans, stating that the Fort Greene Family Center will provide much-needed housing for struggling families.

"We are proud to have partnered with Westhab on this important project that will provide housing and support for families in need," said David Schwartz, co-founder of Slate Property Group.

The Fort Greene Family Center includes 105 units, with a mix of studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The facility also includes a children's play area, community space, and support services for families to help them transition to permanent housing.
