Durst in line to sell Midtown East property for $165M
Durst Organization set to sell 205 East 42nd Street to New York-based 601W Companies for $165 million, family patriarch Joseph Durst purchased the building more than 80 years ago.
The Durst Organization, one of New York City's most prominent real estate firms, is in the process of selling a legacy building in the Midtown East neighborhood.
The property in question, 205 East 42nd Street, was purchased by the Durst family over 80 years ago and has remained in their portfolio ever since. Now, it seems that the organization is ready to part with the building as it has entered into a contract with New York-based 601W Companies for a whopping $165 million.
The details of the sale were revealed in investor materials viewed by The Promote, a real estate news outlet. The 532,000-square-foot, 21-story property was originally developed in 1927 and designed by renowned architecture firm Starrett & Van Vleck.
The contracted price for the sale would break down to $310 per square foot, making it a lucrative deal for both parties involved. The building's major tenants include the City University of New York, adding to its appeal for potential buyers.
While the Durst Organization has yet to confirm the sale, sources close to the matter have stated that it is in its final stages and should be completed soon.
