Former Bank of America COO sells UES mansion at a 19% discount

Over $1.2 billion in real estate transactions recorded in NYC in 24 hours.

Former Bank of America COO Thomas Montag and his wife, philanthropist and former banker Janet Montag, have sold their Upper East Side mansion at 127 East 73rd Street for $26.3 million, representing a 19% discount from its prior trade price. The property, which was renovated in 1904, was purchased by the couple in 2008 for $32.5 million. This sale was the top recorded residential transaction in New York City for the 24 hours before 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, with a total of 225 transactions and $1.2 billion in sales. According to real estate data firm PropertyShark, this is the second time the property has changed hands since 2000, when it was bought for $6.75 million by former Bear Stearns exec Warren Spector. The latest buyer is a limited liability corporation with an address in Delaware, making it difficult to determine the new owner's identity. However, the Montags have been trying to sell the mansion since 2017, when it was listed for $31.5 million. Despite the discount, they still made a profit on the sale.
