FTC Files Lawsuit Against Zillow and Redfin for Alleged Anti-Competitive Agreement on Rental Listings in Alexandria, VA

The FTC has filed a lawsuit against Zillow and Redfin over an alleged anti-competitive agreement for rental listings.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit against Zillow and Redfin, two major players in the real estate industry, over an alleged anti-competitive agreement for rental listings in Alexandria, Virginia. The complaint was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division.

The FTC claims that in February, Zillow and Redfin “entered into an agreement that restrained competition between the two companies for real estate listings in Alexandria, Virginia,” according to a press release from the FTC.

The complaint alleges that the agreement between Zillow and Redfin “reduced competition, limiting choices for real estate agents who use these portals to advertise their services and limiting choices for consumers seeking real estate agents.” The agreement also allegedly resulted in higher prices for real estate agents and consumers.

The FTC is seeking a court order to “prevent the companies from engaging in similar anticompetitive conduct in the future,” according to the press release.
