Hawthorne Orders Charles Company to Redevelop or Demolish Abandoned Hawthorne Plaza Mall by Court Deadline

Hawthorne demands action from The Charles Company and M&A Gabaee on long-abandoned mall by court-ordered deadline.

The City of Hawthorne has set a deadline for The Charles Company and affiliate M&A Gabaee to redevelop or demolish the abandoned Hawthorne Plaza mall, according to Bisnow. The city won a court order requiring the owners to take action on the property, which has been left vacant for years.

The court injunction gives the owners until August 31st of next year to begin redevelopment or demolition of the mall. If they fail to do so, the city plans to request the appointment of a receiver who would take control of the property on behalf of the court.

The Hawthorne Plaza mall, once a bustling shopping center, has been the subject of controversy and legal battles for years. The Charles Company and M&A Gabaee have faced criticism for allowing the property to deteriorate and become an eyesore for the community.

Despite the court order, the owners have not made any public statements about their plans for the mall. However, city officials and residents are hopeful that the deadline will finally bring about some action and lead to the revitalization of the neighborhood.

"We are pleased with the court's decision and hope that the owners will finally take responsibility for the Hawthorne Plaza mall," said a city spokesperson in a statement.
