Kanne do? Meet the developer driving high-rise resi at The Bloc
The Los Angeles City Council approved National Real Estate Advisors’ 41-story, 710-foot-tall residential highrise project at The Bloc, bringing attention to the Washington, D.C.-based developer and its one-time Peace Corps volunteer leader.
The Los Angeles City Council has given the greenlight to National Real Estate Advisors' residential highrise project at The Bloc, a well-known commercial center in Downtown Los Angeles. The project, located at 7th and Flower streets, will add a 41-story, 710-foot-tall tower with 466 apartments above The Bloc's existing parking structure.
The approval has brought attention not only to the project itself, but also to the developer behind it - Washington, D.C.-based National Real Estate Advisors. The firm is led by Jeffrey Kanne, a one-time Peace Corps volunteer who now runs the company.
The addition of the residential component to The Bloc will also include a fitness club, filling a portion of the former Macy's department store. The project is expected to bring new life to the area, which has struggled to attract tenants since its renovation in 2016.
While the project has received approval from the city council, it has also faced some opposition from community members who have raised concerns about the height and density of the development. Councilmember Paul Koretz, who represents the area, initially opposed the project but ultimately voted in favor of it.
"We need more housing and I think this is the right location for it," Koretz said in a statement.
