New York's "Move in NY" program offers municipalities a chance to secure financing for manufactured housing, part of the state's $50 million housing plan.

New York Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul has launched the "Move in NY" program, providing municipalities with the opportunity to secure financing for manufactured housing. This program, included in the state's 2026 budget, aims to address the affordable housing crisis in the state.

The program, which began accepting applications on Monday, will allocate $50 million for up to 15 communities to build at least 10 homes through manufactured housing. These homes must be designed for permanent occupancy and located on land without any zoning restrictions.

In her statement, Hochul stated that this program will "open the door" for municipalities to secure financing for affordable housing options, saying, "This is an innovative solution that will help expand affordable housing options across the state."

The manufactured housing industry has faced challenges in New York due to zoning restrictions and regulations, making it difficult for individuals and families to find affordable housing options. "Move in NY" aims to address this issue by providing funding and support for municipalities to build these homes.

While some critics may argue that this program may not be enough to solve the state's affordable housing crisis, Hochul remains confident in its potential impact. "We have to start somewhere and this is a great start," she said.

This program is just one piece of the state's larger housing plan, and it remains to be seen how successful it will be in addressing the affordable housing crisis in New York.
