Long Beach Launches $64M Complete Streets Overhaul of Studebaker Road
Long Beach kicks off $64M project to revamp Studebaker Road with improved safety and accessibility.
The City of Long Beach has officially begun work on a major project to transform Studebaker Road. The five-mile corridor, stretching from 2nd Street to Carson Street, will undergo a complete streets makeover including resurfaced roadways, new traffic signals, and redesigned intersections.
The project also includes improvements for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders, such as new ADA-compliant sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and bus shelters. Additionally, the corridor will see 100 new street trees, 2,000 shrubs, and new stormwater capture infrastructure.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed excitement about the project, stating, "The Studebaker Road Transformation Project is a game changer for our city. By improving safety, accessibility, and mobility, we are creating a corridor that better serves our residents, students, and visitors. This project will transform how people move through our city and help build a more resilient future."
The project, estimated to cost $64.4 million, will be funded by a combination of state, federal, and local sources. Construction is expected to begin in Fall 2025 and conclude in Fall 2027.
