"Metro's A Line Extension to Pomona Officially Opens, Connecting Angelenos to New Destinations"
"Metro's A Line extension to Pomona brings improved mobility to underserved communities and sets the stage for future expansions."
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony on September 19, Metro officials celebrated the completion of the A Line's extension to Pomona, adding nine miles to the world's longest light rail line. The project, which cost $1.5 billion, includes new stops in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, and Pomona, as well as other infrastructure improvements such as bridges, sound walls, and park-and-ride facilities.
"The A Line will connect Angelenos to a wealth of destinations from the foothills to the beaches," said Metro Board Chair Fernando Dutra in a statement. "Now more Eastern San Gabriel Valley residents can take Metro rail to cities like Pasadena, Downtown LA, South LA, and Long Beach, boosting mobility in communities that haven't been served by rail for decades."
The extension also provides a transfer to the Metrolink San Bernardino Line, making it easier for passengers to travel into the Inland Empire. And with the 2028 Olympics approaching, the A Line will be a convenient option for those attending cricket matches at the Pomona Fairplex.
However, plans for further expansion of the A Line may be in jeopardy as the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority has ended its agreement with the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority to extend the line to Montclair. This means that the next extension of the A Line will terminate in Claremont.
But Metro's work is not done yet - the D Line's extension to the Westside is also underway and expected to open in 2025.
