Settlement Housing Fund Breaks Ground on Coney Island's Newest Affordable Housing Development

Coney Landing, a 15-story affordable and supportive housing development, is underway in the bustling neighborhood of Coney Island, Brooklyn.

The long-awaited Coney Landing project, designed by ESKW/Architects and developed by Settlement Housing Fund, has finally broken ground at 2952 West 28th Street in Coney Island. The development will consist of a 15-story building with a total of 178 apartments, including 106 supportive units. This project is part of the larger Coney Island West development, which is expected to bring 1,100 new homes to the area.

The innovative design of Coney Landing will meet Passive House standards and utilize geothermal energy systems, making it one of the most environmentally-friendly buildings in the neighborhood. The property is being built on the site of a former surface parking lot between Mermaid and Surf Avenues, providing much-needed affordable housing in a prime location.

"We are excited to break ground on Coney Landing and provide much-needed affordable housing to the Coney Island community," said Jack Hammer, CEO of Settlement Housing Fund. "Our goal is to create a sustainable and inclusive development that will serve the community for years to come."

This development has faced some opposition from community members who are concerned about the impact of gentrification on the neighborhood. However, with the support of city officials and community leaders, Coney Landing is moving forward to provide affordable housing options for low-income and supportive housing residents.
