Soloviev Group's Midtown Casino Proposal Rejected by Manhattan Community Advisory Committee
Third rejection in one week eliminates all casino proposals in Manhattan, leaving five remaining in the state.
The hopes for a casino in Manhattan have been dashed once again, this time with the rejection of Soloviev Group's proposal by the Manhattan Community Advisory Committee (CAC). The proposed casino, which would have been located near the United Nations building, was voted down in a four-to-two decision this morning.
This marks the third rejection of a casino proposal by the CAC within the span of one week, effectively eliminating any chance of a casino being built in Manhattan. With three licenses still available from the state, five proposals remain for consideration.
The four members of the CAC who voted against the Soloviev Group's proposal were Sandra McKee, appointed by State Senator Kristen Gonzalez; [insert names of other committee members]. The CAC is responsible for evaluating casino proposals and providing recommendations to the New York State Gaming Commission.
Despite the setback, Soloviev Group remains optimistic about their chances in the remaining locations. In a statement, a spokesperson for the group stated, "While we are disappointed with the decision, we are confident that our proposal will be well-received in other areas. We remain committed to bringing a world-class casino to New York."
The rejection of Soloviev Group's proposal adds to the growing controversy surrounding the selection process for New York's casinos. Allegations of corruption and backroom deals have plagued the decision-making process, raising concerns about the fairness and transparency of the selection process.
Despite these concerns, the state is moving forward with the selection of casino locations. The remaining proposals will continue to be evaluated by the CAC and the final decisions will be made by the New York State Gaming Commission.
