"Steven Sharp Breaks Ground on Echo Park Affordable Housing Development at 1540 W. Court St."

Heavy equipment is on site and dirt is being moved as developer Steven Sharp officially broke ground on September 5 for the Court Residences, an affordable housing complex located at 1540 Court Street in Echo Park. The seven-story building will feature 189 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments for low- and middle-income households, with no on-site parking.
The project received development incentives to allow for a larger structure than what is typically allowed by the zoning rules, as well as streamlined approvals through the Mayor's Executive Directive 1. According to the approval letter from the Planning Department, the project is being designed by Kevin Tsai Architecture with JZA Architecture serving as the executive architect.
"We believe affordable housing should be inspiring, not limiting," said Terry Harris, founder of Visionary Developments, which is partnering with Steven Sharp on the project. "At The Court Residences, our goal is to provide residents with a space where they can grow, thrive, and feel proud of where they live, in a neighborhood that they desire, with access to opportunity, beauty, and thoughtful design."
The same project team is also working on a number of other affordable housing developments in the Echo Park area, including a recent proposal for an apartment complex at 1275 Sunset Boulevard. Visionary Developments has a total of 580 homes in the planning stages.
