"Thatcher Yard: Oxford Triangle's Latest Affordable Housing Project"

"Thatcher Yard, a new affordable housing community, has opened in Venice's Oxford Triangle."

Thatcher Yard, the latest affordable housing project in Venice's Oxford Triangle, has officially opened its doors at 3233 South Thatcher Avenue. Developed by AMCAL Multi-Housing Inc., the former City maintenance yard has been transformed into an intergenerational community with 98 rent-restricted apartments for seniors and families.

The project, designed by Architects Orange, features a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with 61 units set aside for seniors earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income and 37 units for families earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income.

This project is an important step in addressing the affordable housing crisis in Los Angeles, with Mayor Eric Garcetti stating, "We need more projects like Thatcher Yard that provide affordable housing options for both seniors and families in our city."

However, not everyone is pleased with the development. Some community members have raised concerns about the project's size and density, with one resident stating, "It's just too big for our neighborhood. We already have enough traffic and congestion as it is."

Despite these concerns, AMCAL Multi-Housing Inc. was able to secure $33.7 million in financing for the project, with contributions from the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles, and the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee.
