The Daily Dirt: Casino scorecard (so far)
The final round of the controversial casino competition is coming to a close.
It's been quite the battle for developers vying to build a casino in New York City, and the drama continues as the final community advisory committee (CAC) vote approaches on Tuesday at 11 a.m. So far, the CACs have voted on seven of the eight proposals, with the last one set to be voted on soon.
For those who haven't been closely following the chaos, here's the current scorecard: three projects have been approved by the CACs and will now move on to the state's Gaming Facility Location Board for final consideration. These include MGM Empire City in Yonkers, Queens Aqueduct Casino operated by Resorts World, and Bally's in Throggs Neck.
Unfortunately for some developers, four proposals have been rejected by the committees. This includes the Soloviev Group and the Mohegan Tribe, among others. With only one more vote left, tensions are high as developers eagerly await the final decision.
While some may argue that the CACs have acted in the best interest of the community, others may see a hint of soft corruption and influence games at play. As one developer stated, "It's a shame that the decision ultimately comes down to the subjective opinions of a select few." But with millions of dollars at stake, it's no surprise that things are getting heated.
One thing is for sure, Tuesday's final vote is sure to be filled with twists and turns. Who will come out on top? Stay tuned.
