Miami real estate broker uses New York mayoral race chaos to urge New Yorkers to move to the Magic City.
The New York City mayoral race has caused quite a stir in the real estate industry, with some fearing the potential impact of a Zohran Mamdani victory. However, one South Florida broker is looking to capitalize on this chaos.
Dina Goldentayer, a top broker with Douglas Elliman in Miami, took out a billboard in Times Square urging New Yorkers to ditch the Big Apple for the Magic City. In a video posted to her Instagram, Goldentayer plays the role of a buyer calling her partner from a private plane, saying, “Honey, I called the jet. We’re moving to Miami.”
This social media ad reflects concerns from other luxury brokers who have warned of a potential exodus of wealthy New Yorkers if Mamdani, a Democratic Socialist, is elected mayor. Goldentayer's billboard features the slogan “Say No to Socialism” and directs viewers to her website, which promotes Miami as a tax-friendly alternative to New York.
While Goldentayer's tactics may seem opportunistic, she is not the only one banking on the uncertainty of the mayoral race. Miami-based real estate developer Jorge Pérez, known as the "King of Condos," recently donated $50,000 to Eric Adams, the leading Democratic candidate for mayor.
According to Pérez, his donation was motivated by concerns over Mamdani's progressive policies, including calls for rent control and higher taxes on the wealthy. “I am certainly worried about the direction that the city may be taking,” Pérez stated in an interview with The Real Deal.
