Tinmouth Chang Architects Proposes Renovation for Historic Townhouse in Fort Greene, Brooklyn

Historic townhouse in Fort Greene set for renovation by Tinmouth Chang Architects.

The New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC) is set to review a proposal for renovation work on 426 Clermont Avenue, a three-story, four-unit brick townhouse in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The property, located between Greene Avenue and Fulton Street, is currently owned by Tinmouth Chang Architects, who have submitted plans for a rear yard addition and rooftop modifications.

The proposal has sparked controversy among residents and preservationists. Some argue that the addition and modifications will detract from the historic character of the townhouse, while others believe it is necessary to modernize the property. However, it seems that the decision will ultimately come down to the LPC.

City officials have been keeping a close eye on the project, as Tinmouth Chang Architects has a history of pushing the boundaries with their designs. In fact, this is not the first time the firm has proposed changes to a historic property in Fort Greene. In 2018, they faced backlash for their plans to convert a former church into a luxury condo building.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their concerns about the project, stating, "Fort Greene is known for its beautiful historic homes, and we need to protect them from developers who are only interested in making a quick profit. The LPC needs to carefully consider the impact of these proposed changes."

The fate of 426 Clermont Avenue remains uncertain as the LPC continues to review the proposal. Only time will tell if Tinmouth Chang Architects will be granted the green light to move forward with their renovation plans.
