United Real Estate CEO Calls Out NAR for Lack of Meaningful Change
United Real Estate CEO Dan Duffy criticizes NAR for slow progress in governance and financial reform.
At RISMedia's 2025 CEO & Leadership Exchange, Dan Duffy, CEO and founder of United Real Estate, shared his thoughts on NAR's progress in making necessary changes to its governance and financial practices. Duffy, known for his blunt and direct approach, did not hold back in his criticism of the association.
Duffy specifically addressed the panel titled "The New NAR - How the Association Is Righting the Ship," which included other industry leaders such as Richard Haggerty, Shannon McGahn, Chris Raveis, and John Featherston. He stated, "The panel title itself shows that NAR recognizes there are issues that need to be addressed, but the progress has been slow and lacking in real impact." Duffy went on to point out the need for "meaningful" changes rather than just superficial adjustments.
He also highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability, stating, "We need to know where our money is going and who is making decisions on our behalf. That level of transparency is necessary for us to have trust in the association." Duffy noted that without trust, it will be difficult for NAR to effectively represent and advocate for its members.
While NAR has made some changes in recent years, including the implementation of a Code of Ethics training requirement, Duffy believes there is still much work to be done. He urged NAR to focus on making tangible changes that will have a significant impact on the industry.
